Photographs from the collection of the Hewitt family

John (Jack) Hewitt served as a stoker aboard Arethusa from November 1941 to August 1944, he survived the torpedo attack in November 1942 and was among the crew who took her to Charleston for repairs. He would later have witnessed the D-Day bombardments and was aboard when King George sailed across the channel.

Jack's daughter recognised a photo of him in the Oliver collection of photos along with his shipmate Charlie Beacon. Jack later built a model of the Arethusa which is seen below.
