Robert was born 18th March 1921, this photograph was sent to me by his surviving sister Audrey.

Some memories that Audrey has of her brother.

Robert (Bob to us) started his education in Sydenham, Kent at a private school. I think it only lasted a few months as we moved on to Croydon where he attended a local state school. He must have left school at fourteen as everyone did then. At about this time we moved to Edmonton in North London and he started work at a local estate agent with a view to becoming a surveyer. I have memories of seeing him studying at home. He was very keen on football and joined a local team which lasted untill he joined the navy.

He joined the navy in 1940, probably about June/July, when he was 18.
